What is scale modeling?

Scale modeling, simply put, is the replication of any object in a reduced "scale" from the original prototype.
Common scales for models built from commercially-available kits include (from smallest to largest) 1/144th, 1/72nd, 1/48th, 1/35th, 1/32nd and 1/24th. However, scratch builders may build in other, less common scales. Those interested in figurines may build in as large as 1/4th scale.
The media for scale modeling can include styrene plastic, epoxy/poly resins, metal, wood, and synthetic rubber. Interests of the builder may range from military armor and aircraft to civilian airliners and science fiction subjects.
If you are interested in exploring this wonderful hobby as a newcomer, or if you are an experienced hobbiest looking to socialize with other modelers, you are welcome to join us. If you are from a neighboring club and you would like your club listed on this page, please contact the webmaster at the e-mail address provided below.

Why Plastic Modeling?
The following narrative was taken from the box of a Hawk Models 1/48 scale Cessna Super Skymaster. Hawk was the predecessor to Testors and was a top model kit producer in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

"A boy’s future begins with modeling, for he will learn patience and the satisfaction of building with his own hands. Following simple instructions is the first step toward well developed logic patterns. His interests will widen and newer more complex hobbies will enlarge his range of  knowledge and technical competence. The world will be his as he models it and as he researches it. To find out more, he will seek information and the quest will lead him into interest areas yet unimagined. This is modeling…a boy’s first step into his future.”

So there...Centex Modelers - just a bunch of big kids still having fun.  Come join us. :)
